The opportunity
The CTO is a pivotal executive role responsible for owning the company’s technological vision and driving strategy, execution, and technology activities. This leader will oversee the development, implementation, and enhancement of cutting-edge technology, ensuring alignment with the company’s business objectives and market demands. The CTO will lead and manage the R&D teams to innovate and improve products and solutions.
Key Responsibilities include:
Technology Strategy and Vision:
- Together with the CEO and executive team, develop and implement a comprehensive technology roadmap that aligns with and delivers the company’s long-term goals.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and industry best practices to maintain the company’s competitive edge and insight on market.
Technology Development:
- Lead and manage the R&D teams to innovate and improve products and solutions.
- Lead and manage the R&D teams to innovate and improve processes and recipes to make the product.
- Ensure effective collaboration between R&D, engineering, and product development teams.
- Develop value added ancillary products such as datasets, licensing and services.
Product Development:
- Lead the product development through their lifecycle from concept into production, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective solutions.
- Define and implement appropriate and robust testing and quality assurance protocols to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Ensure all products and processes comply with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Strategic Partnerships:
- Establish and maintain mission oriented strategic partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry partners to foster innovation and collaboration.
- Assure the company is competently represented in technical forums, conferences, and industry consortia.
Ideal career experience:
- Demonstrable capability to understand highly technical areas including electrochemistry, materials, thin films, plasma coating.
- Demonstrable evidence of success in leading the industrialization of technology-based physical products (ie not just software).
- Excellent management and interpersonal skills, ability to lead R&D teams and ramp fast scaling organisations without a deep understanding of our technology.
- Proven track record of leading successful R&D projects and product development initiatives.
- Experience in high tech industries such as PV, semicon, batteries, thin film.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor physics, thin film deposition processes, and photovoltaic cell fabrication.
- Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in scientific or engineering field.
